A mechanism fault is not always a cylinder fault
On a multipoint door, a central mechanism can operate several locking points along the edge. A problem may involve that mechanism, the handles, the frame keeps or door alignment. A keyhole photograph alone cannot establish which part needs attention.
Tell us whether the door catches on the frame, whether the handle feels loose and whether the problem developed gradually or suddenly. Include any previous repair or known manufacturer's markings without removing the locking strip.
Open, closed or unable to secure
The door's current position affects the conversation. State whether it is stuck closed, opens but will not lock, or has a handle that will not move normally. Do not force the handle to try to engage the locking points.
If this is your only secure entrance, say so and call us — we're open 7 days, with late callouts until midnight. If the frame is visibly damaged, explain that too; replacement mechanism parts alone may not address structural damage.
Parts and repair scope need checking
Photograph visible edge markings only when the door is already open and safe to leave that way. Some systems need specific compatible parts. Send markings and we'll check the right parts.
Ask which inspection or repair is proposed, whether parts need sourcing and what happens if a different door specialist is required. We confirm the work and price before we set off.
Your questions
Can you replace the gearbox?
We carry out residential uPVC multipoint mechanism work. Whether a gearbox replacement is the right repair depends on the fault and compatible parts for your system. Send symptoms and visible markings to discuss the options.
Can a mechanism repair fix the frame?
Not necessarily. Tell us about any damage or rubbing; structural or door-alignment work may require a different scope or specialist.
